What are the risks and benefits of therapy?

Psychotherapy is valuable tool for managing life’s stresses and conflicts that anyone might face.

In some cases, research demonstrates psychotherapy can be as effective as some medications, such as antidepressants.

But depending on your situation, talk therapy alone may not be enough to ease the symptoms of a mental health condition. You also may need medicines or other treatments.

At Dig a Little Deeper, we offer an integrated approach to your mental health care, with both psychotherapy and counselling for individuals and their family members, but with psychiatric NP assessment, diagnosis and medication management.

Are there any downsides in therapy?

What to consider before starting psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is typically low-risk, though it may delve into sensitive areas, leading to temporary emotional discomfort.

An experienced therapist attuned to your needs can effectively mitigate these risks.

Developing coping skills throughout therapy, within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship will empower you to overcome and handle strong emotions, and move forward toward your goals.
