Bio

Family can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to feel so hard.

EVERYBODY (and their mother, brother, sister, 3rd cousin – twice removed!) has something to say about babies, child-rearing and parenthood, but it’s not always the help you might need.

Alexandra provides counselling and behaviour therapy to children, youth and adults. Alex has a specific interest in supporting the transition to parenthood, how to manage the unanticipated challenges, or navigating the decision to not having children. Alex specializes in supporting men and women, including adults with ADHD, in all areas of family planning. Alex uses strategies rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and narrative therapy.

Alexandra works collaboratively with adults to create their own definition of family: from contemplation of a child-full, or child-free life, and all the stages in between. Your own definition of family, your way.

This might look like support around:

  • Decision-making about family planning
  • Grief surrounding a miscarriage
  • Pregnancy and the experience of childbirth
  • Making sense of a disappointing or traumatic childbirth experience
  • Identity and relationship changes after the baby’s arrival
  • Managing opinions and advice about being a ‘good-enough’ parent

Alex is a mother to 3 wildly fun kids that she co-parents with her ex-husband and his (amazing!) new partner. Apart from her work, Alex enjoys morning walks, peloton dance parties, embroidering (like a grandma!), nerdy neuroscience podcasts, and trashy (like REALLY trashy) shows on Netflix.
