Bridging the Gaps in Ontario’s Mental Health Care System

If you or someone you love is stuck on a waitlist for mental health care in Ontario, you are not alone.

The stories we hear every day from new clients and families reflect the state of healthcare in Ontario. People are waiting far too long for the support they need, or when they do get help, it still doesn’t meet their needs.

In many cases, these delays are not just inconvenient. They’re harmful.

A row of people sitting on chairs in a waiting room, all looking anxious or deep in thought as the wait feels too long; some hold phones or papers, while daylight streams through a window in the background.

At Dig A Little Deeper, our mission has always been to help fill the gaps to do our part of the broader health care system, to deliver the kind of service we would want for our own family members.

We are a regulated, Ontario-based private mental health clinic that offers access to care when the public system is overwhelmed, missing specific expertise or simply unavailable.

We have always been committed to our work alongside public providers, not in competition with them, and we respect the complex reality of our health care system.

That’s why I’m proud to share a significant milestone in our evolution.

A woman with wavy brown hair, wearing a short-sleeved, dark green floral top, stands smiling in front of a plain light blue background, representing the Leadership team at Dig a Little Deeper Ontario.

On September 1, 2025, Carole Gionet, NP, will be joining our senior leadership team full time as our new Director, Integrated Mental Health.

This matters to you, especially if you’re navigating long waitlists or feel stuck in the cycle of referrals without answers.

Carole brings more than two decades of experience in family health, pediatric, adolescent and adult psychiatry and collaborative primary care.

Carole’s role will guide the continued growth of our Integrated Mental Health service, which remains a unique offering in Ontario’s private mental health sector. Unlike many assessment-only clinics that stop at diagnosis, our team stays with you. Our NP’s provide full-circle care, including diagnostic clarity, medication management, psychotherapy, and continuity with the same providers throughout your care journey.

A computer monitor displays a list of mental health specialties, including ADHD, depression/anxiety, and insomnia/sleep disorders, with a blue and black text layout—highlighting medication management options through private psychiatry in Ontario.

Our service already offers more timely comprehensive psychiatric assessment-diagnosis and treatment, coordination with psychotherapists and family doctors. Carole’s leadership will allow our program to be led from the full scope of an experienced mental health Nurse Practitioner’s expertise.

We hope to continue to offer more pathways forward for individuals and families who have been waiting too long for relief.

We know private care isn’t the first choice for everyone. It shouldn’t have to be. But right now, when the public system is backlogged and the stakes are high, it’s essential that innovative, responsible options are available.

We’re here to offer one that’s grounded in integrity, evidence-based practice, and genuine collaboration with our public counterparts.

Our clinic is growing because the need is growing. Carole’s full-time leadership marks a new chapter for us, and we hope it brings new hope to the many Ontarians still waiting for care that should have arrived long ago.

You deserve access to treatment that works and a care team that stays with you.

Is it the right service for you?

If you’re wondering whether our Integrated Mental Health service might be right for you or your family, you can take our quick screening quiz on this page to get started.

A person sits on a couch using a laptop displaying a form that asks, In which province do you reside?—with options for Ontario and Other—while searching for private psychiatry Ontario services when the wait feels too long.

The screening quiz lets us know whether we are the right service for you, or whether you would be best served elsewhere (so please be as honest as you can!).

Behind the scenes

Join us behind the scenes of Dig A Little Deeper’s Nurse Practitioner-led mental health clinic, an innovative model that’s bridging gaps in Ontario’s healthcare system. Our lead NP, Carole Gionet, joins me to share the origin story—how we built this clinic, the challenges we faced, and why Nurse Practitioners are reshaping the future of mental health care.
