Here we are my friends! It’s PodcastLaunch Day

For a long time, I have been asked when I might put out a podcast. I was never quite sure whether or not podcasting was for me, mostly because I didn’t want to re-create something that already existed (there are so many great mental health focused podcasts). And who are we kidding, we need to manage our side projects, am I right? 

It’s always been really important to me that mental health (any health information frankly) be as accessible as possible. Meaning, if you don’t have the means to afford private psychotherapy, that shouldn’t mean you don’t have access to accurate and easy to understand information about the every day things that influence your mental health. 

​That commitment to accessibility is largely what motivated my early days as a regulated health care professional making the sorta scary decision to offer credible mental health information on platforms like Instagram.  One thing led to another, and then when the pandemic hit in 2020, I also became part of the #adhdtiktok phenomenon. While it has its pros and cons, for me, the pro’s greatly outweigh the cons.

I was even lucky enough to be a co-presenter on this very topic at a global scientific conference in the fall of 2021!

​I’ve reached a place now where the conversations I’m really interested in sharing with you, go far beyond what I can accomplish in shorter sound bites on social media (I’ll still do them though!).  It’s time to once again, DIG A LITTLE DEEPER.

As I reflect, not only what we have all collectively been through during this global pandemic, but in my own personal journey, I cannot help but count many, many mentors and friends who have surrounded me. These people have been an incredible buffer from burnout, from overwhelm, have kept me laughing and encouraged me exactly when I needed it the most. They truly have very much shaped who I am, what Dig A Little Deeper has evolved into and where things might go next.

Episode 1: Finding an Antidote to ADHD-related Perfectionism features a conversation with Ontario Registered Psychotherapist Mindy Bilotta. Mindy is an AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) therapist and she has also been a one of my therapist-friends and colleagues since graduation.

​In this episode, Mindy and I talk about:

  • What is perfectionism really? Why do we do it? Are there different types?
  • Why should we have self-compassion? Is it an antidote to perfectionism?
  • Why do adults with ADHD struggle with perfectionism? 
  • Why is “undoing aloneness” an essential part of healing? 

Episode 2: Important Nuances for ADHD Families and Treatment, with Dr. Joan Flood. Dr. Joan Flood, a family physician specialized in ADHD, from Toronto, ON. Dr. Flood is on the Executive board and chair of the Advocacy committee of CADDRA, the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance.

​Dr. Flood and I talk about:

  • What does ADHD in families really look like? 
  • What do we need to know about ADHD meds? How do we get it right?
  • How do we talk to our family doc about ADHD?
